Yukie Shiroma, faculty at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa has been studying modern dance with Betty Jones and Okinawan dance with Cheryl Nakasone for over 35 years. She received her MFA degree in dance from the UHM in 1987 and started the dance program at Mid-Pacific Institute, a performing arts high school, where she served as Dance Director for 20 years. In 2006 she received an Individual Artist Fellowship Award from the Hawai'i State Foundation on Cultural and the Arts. She is Artistic Director of Monkey Waterfall, and currently teaches Okinawan dance in the UHM Department of Theatre and Dance.
